Wildside Game Newsletter #2 - September 2007

The Green LionThe Golden Thorns September is a busy month for Wildside, with a full slate of demos, readings, radio appearances, as well as a lot of new books in the works. Come join in the fun!

Book launch party!
On September 19 at 6:30 p.m., the UConn Coop Bookstore will be celebrating the publication of Leigh Grossman’s fantasy novels The Green Lion and The Golden Thorns. If you can’t make the launch party (or even if you can), drop by the signing at Wonderland Books in Putnam, Connecticut on Saturday, September 22.

Demos.
The demo at Cave Comics in Newtown, Connecticut was an adventurous reprise of “mimes gone wild.” Matt, Jessica O, Katie R, Tom R, Krissy D, Scott D, Sean C and other friends and gamers stopped by. Webmaster Rowena was there. The day ended with the characters fleeing into hiding with a mystical chest, and a blazing mime-filled castle in the background. At Sarge’s Comics in New London, Connecticut the demo was livened up by Colter, the store’s bathrobe-clad gaming expert, who is planning on starting a regular Wildside game at the store. (Contact Colter at 860-443-2004 for more info.) We also ran demos at Pandemonium Books & Games in Cambridge, Massachusetts and The Time Machine in Manchester, Connecticut. You’ll find links to convention and demo pictures at the bottom of the Wildside events page.

New Demos.
There are a number of Wildside demos coming up, such as the ones at Matt’s Sportscards and Comics in Enfield, Connecticut on September 8, at Most Excellent Comics in the Enfield Mall on September 23, and at Dragon’s Lair in West Springfield, Massachusetts, on October 6. As always, check the Wildside events page for updated listings, or if you use Google Calender, search for “Wildside Game” to view or add our calendar of events. If you’d like to learn the game better, get your copy autographed by the author, or just drop by to say hello, feel free to come by.

On the radio.
You can hear Leigh Grossman in a number of radio interviews as part of the book tour for The Green Lion and The Golden Thorns. Tune into WINY on September 19, the day of the book launch, or listen to a two-hour live radio interview September 29 on WBAI’s Hour of the Wolf in NYC. Radio interviews are posted on the Wildside events page as they occur.

New things on the website.
The searchable spell database is now live on the website, and more new spells will be added to the free downloads section in September. Look for excerpts from all our new books in the near future as well.

And speaking of new books.
Koboldly Where Gnome Has Gone Before and Crusade of Kings are both being edited now and will be available soon. Koboldly, by longtime West Coast Wildside gamer Robert Altomare, is a pun-filled romp of an adventure suitable for convention play or folks new to Wildside, while Crusade of Kings is a rich campaign resource for GMs interested in building a setting based on the first threee Crusades. Crusades author R. Scott Peoples is a Colorado historian best known for his popular weekly history column that appears on the DailyKos website.

Forthcoming conventions.
We’ll be running games at Anonycon in Stamford, Connecticut this December. If you’d like to volunteer to help run Wildside at a convention we’ll be attending, let us know. For that matter, let us know if you’ll be running Wildside at a convention we’re not attending, so we can list you on our events page.

Other demos and workshops.
We mostly run demos in the Northeast, but occasionally wander elsewhere as travel schedules permit. (For instance, we’ll be running a demo in the Philippines on January 5.) If you’d like to see a Wildside demo at your local store, drop us a line and we’ll see what we can do. We look for about 10 players - enough to run two games - at demos. And obviously the stores are happier if some of you show them some love by buying Wildside books. Occasionally we run full-day demos for specific groups that want to learn the game. (These demos are closed to the public and not listed on the events page.) Usually we do them here in northeast Connecticut. We’re looking at starting a series of all-day workshops for Wildside GMs, also here in Connecticut. If you’re interested in participating, drop us an email for more details.

Thanks for reading.
Feel free to pass this on, and we hope to see you at a signing, demo, convention, or other event soon.
