Wildside Game Newsletter #3 - October 2007

The Green Lion September was a busy month full of demos, readings, and radio appearances. October will be a lot of fun too, so come visit us at demos and check out Leigh Grossman’s new books, The Green Lion and The Golden Thorns.

Book launch party!
On September 19, the UConn Coop Bookstore celebrated the publication of Leigh Grossman’s fantasy novels The Green Lion and The Golden Thorns. After an introduction by Suzie Staubach, the store’s manager, Leigh read the beginning of The Green Lion to the overflow crowd. Another local event followed that Saturday, at Wonderland Books in Putnam, Connecticut.

Demos.
Matt’s Sportscards and Comics in Enfield, Connecticut was an energetic demo. Many of the players had not played a role playing game before, which made the more experienced players excited about sharing the facinating world of Wildside with the new players. We will be visiting Matt’s again October 14. We also ran a demo at Most Excellent comics in the Enfield Mall, featuring Jessica O, Katie R, Krissy D, David B (debuting as a GM) and other friends who stopped by.

You’ll find links to convention and demo pictures at the bottom of the Wildside events page.

New Demos.
There are a number of Wildside demos coming up, such as the ones at West Dragon’s Lair in Springfield, Massachusetts, on October 6 and November 3, and Matt’s Sportscards and Comics in Enfield, Connecticut on October 14, As always, check the Wildside events page for updated listings, or if you use Google Calender [link: http://www.google.com/calendar], search for “Wildside Game” to view or add our calendar of events. If you’d like to learn the game better, get your copy autographed by the author, or just drop by to say hello, feel free to come by.

The Golden Thorns On the radio.
Leigh Grossman was in a number of radio interviews this past month as part of the book tour for The Green Lion and The Golden Thorns. September 19, the day of the book launch, WINY did a radio interveiw with Leigh. WBAI’s Hour of the Wolf in NYC interviewed Leigh September 29 from 5:00-7:00 a.m. Hour of the Wolf has been broadcasting original and classic drama of the genre, and connecting listeners with their favorite authors, for over 35 years. This radio interview, in which Leigh reads from The Green Lion, talks about fantasy and baseball, and many ravens are introduced, is available here.

New things on the website.
The searchable spell database is now live on the website, and more new spells are being added to the free downloads section. Look for excerpts from all our new books in the near future as well.

And speaking of new books.
Koboldly Where Gnome Has Gone BeforeKoboldly Where Gnome Has Gone Before and Crusade of Kings are both being edited now and will be available soon. Koboldly, by longtime West Coast Wildside gamer Robert Altomare, is a pun-filled romp of an adventure suitable for convention play or folks new to Wildside, while Crusade of Kings is a rich campaign resource for GMs interested in building a setting based on the first three Crusades. Crusades author R. Scott Peoples is a Colorado historian best known for his popular weekly history column that appears on the DailyKos website.

Forthcoming conventions.
We’ll be running games at Anonycon in Stamford, Connecticut this December. If you’d like to volunteer to help run Wildside at a convention we’ll be attending, let us know. For that matter, let us know if you’ll be running Wildside at a convention we’re not attending, so we can list you on our events page.

Other demos and workshops.
We mostly run demos in the Northeast, but occasionally wander elsewhere as travel schedules permit. (For instance, we’ll be running a demo in the Philippines on January 5.) If you’d like to see a Wildside demo at your local store, drop us a line and we’ll see what we can do. We look for about 10 players - enough to run two games - at demos. And obviously the stores are happier if some of you show them some love by buying Wildside books. Occasionally we run full-day demos for specific groups that want to learn the game. (These demos are closed to the public and not listed on the events page.) Usually we do them here in northeast Connecticut. We’re looking at starting a series of all-day workshops for Wildside GMs, also here in Connecticut. If you’re interested in participating, drop us an email for more details.

Intern turning.
New intern Jessica O’Neil takes over for Frank Mohr, who’s moving on to bigger and better things. Look for Frank at demos and in the forthcoming book of martial arts he’s writing for Wildside.

Thanks for reading.
Feel free to pass this on, and we hope to see you at a signing, demo, convention, or other event soon.
